Organized in June 1991 by a group of Filipino workers on Saipan, Shepherd’s Choir was initially
envisioned to be a venue that would help fellow workers turn aside the sad thought of having to work away
from home and their family.
This, aside from the chance to serve God and sing songs of praises, while being able to share their
talents to the people who have so warmly welcomed them into the community.
The group has gone far beyond its original goal, ten years hence.
Today, Shepherd’s Choir is no longer the ordinary group that used to perform during the 9am Sunday
mass at the Mount Carmel Cathedral, it has opened opportunities for its more than 20 members to
establish friendship founded within the walls of faith, interest and talents.
These three elements - faith, interest and talents - shared by the group’s members paved the way for
Shepherd’s Choir to carve a niche in the local music scene. Shepherd’s Choir has grown to become one
of Saipan’s most sought-after musical group, as proven by their increased regular performance at Kristo
Rai Parish’s 6pm Saturday mass and occasional stint at the San Jose Parish Church.
More than a decade after the group was organized by Rose Arista Soledad, Moi Olan and Tony Tan,
Shepherd’s Choir continues to provide a good number of Filipino workers an important place where
loneliness is liquefied and transformed into a more solid form of conviction - one that sets higher value for
friendship, the love of family and the love of God.
